Aashikha

Founder Artiste & Dancer at Ektha

Profession: Project Support Coordinator

The joy you get when you dance your heart out is a whole different feeling. For Aashikha, dancing transcends you into a lively, happy world! Having professionally pursued dance during her schooling, there was a huge break after and she almost lost touch. She says she is extremely grateful to Ektha for having given her so many opportunities to celebrate and revive this passion. She is glad for having had the chance to try different art forms and to have met so many wonderful dancers too! Having been with Ektha right from Anjali, the first project and having taken part in many more video shoots and programs at the Round Table Gala Night and Kovai Vizha, she looks forward to all the new opportunities in the future!

Saritha

Artistic Director & Dancer at Ektha

Profession: Educationist & Entrepreneur

Ektha is the brainchild of Saritha, an educationist by profession, and a dancer by passion. She wanted to do something to unite young dancers in Coimbatore in June 2018, and that's how Ektha was born - there has been no looking back ever since! Though Saritha works at her family run school on the professional front, dance is her passion. Ektha is a brainchild that began once she returned from the UK - she realised how much she shared and learnt by interacting with various young dancers in Southampton. There’s nothing like supporting and encouraging other dancers - you learn, you teach, you share ideas and more importantly, you grow as a person and artist. She firmly believes that this is just an addition to everyone’s journey with their Gurus - we are nothing without them! She is extremely grateful to everyone who has been associated with Ektha - as dancers, as well-wishers, as dance teachers and she is excited to take Ektha forward with every other dancer!

Dance has always given me immense joy and confidence. It has been a part of my life since childhood. It makes me feel alive and helps me come out of all stress and worries. Being held up in a hectic schedule, I couldn’t find time to balance both my profession and my passion, but then Ektha happened.. Through Ektha I was able to connect with different dancers across the city and perform and get a good exposure with amazing people.

Learning Bharatanatyam for the last 16 years has taught me the most valuable lessons of life. I've always considered learning this divine art form, a blessing. Communicating my thoughts and feelings through damce has always given me joy. Sharing enthusiasm for dance with like minded dancers has brought me closer to Ektha. I'd like to thank Ektha for reuniting the dancers from our good old school days.

Shruthipriyaa

Dancer at Ektha

Profession: Student

Dancing is an inseparable part of my life. I started learning Bharathanatyam at the age of 6 under Smt Sumathi Ganapathiappa, and I am now learning under Vidushi Smt Mrudula Rai in Shree Natya Niketan. An MBA graduate, I have completed Grade 8 exams in Annamalai University, and completed lateral level in Prayathnam exams Chennai. I love exploring dance, and have attended and learnt from several exponents of the art through workshops. To me, dance is a part of my emotions - it helps me feel the state of mind and always keeps me motivated. I have been a part of Ektha since 2019 and have attended the adavu meets and the movement workshop by Shreya, organised by Ektha, and was part of the Tamil new year video shoot. Cheers to Ektha for many more dance-fun-learning-sharing moments.

You don’t choose art. It’s art that chooses you. I have been learning dance for the past 18 years and hold a Master's degree in Bharathanatyam. A dance teacher and a Tamil and Geography teacher at a school, I'm a person driven by passion. I've performed at various programs and stages and continue to dance, teach and perform. My connection with Ektha started in 2019. I must say that Ektha is a wonderful platform for budding artists. It is a space where dancers can connect, explore, create and I am super excited to be a part of Ektha.

Dancing is so therapeutic to me and it elevates my mood to positivity. I have been following Ektha since its inception. I've been involved with Ektha since the 2nd anniversary virtual collaboration dance and was a lovely experience. It was a fantastic feeling of getting back on your legs to dance together.

I have been practising dance for over 16 years now. Dance is my forever passion and it is what connects me to my inner soul. Dance is what drives me and motivates me to do everything in life. I was very happy to join Ektha during the lockdown in Ektha’s 2nd year celebrations and have been associated with Ektha ever since. I'm passionate about taking part in all of Ektha’s productions moving forward.

Profession: Dancer & Dance Teacher

Dancing holds a very special place in my life. I've been dance since the age of 4, so it has become a daily routine now. The dance beats takes off all my worries. I have always loved dancing because it fills my heart with joy. Dancing over the years has also increased my confidence and that made me become a dance teacher now and also got me ready to build the passion of dance in my students too. Dancing with fellow dancers is a part of becoming good at this art. And thats what Ektha does. Being a part of Ektha gives me happiness and I wish to do lot more performances together.

Why dance: I love all styles of dance. It’s a form of expression beyond comparison. It allows you to let go, portray all kinds of emotions creating that connect with the audience. The feeling on being on stage being able to do that brings just sheer joy to me. That applause after every performance makes my day. Ektha - as the name goes, this great initiative unites dancers of all forms and ages. Post delivery, ektha was the first place I started to dance again after a long break. So, it will always remain special to me.

Why dance? I'm thinking of a possible answer for this question now only because I remember myself to be dancing from the age of 2 - western, classical.. whatever it was. Put on music and I'll be there! I mean I think its hard for me to say somethjng definite because I genuinely love dance too much! Ektha kept me in touch with dancing even during the lockdown and I ABSOLUTELY love and look upto the fact that Ektha has been putting in so much effort towards just growing organically. I'm super glad to be a small yet big part of this group!

Dancing has always been my safe space to express. During times I feel insecure about myself, dance makes me feel secure, happy, and beyond all of that, it gives me a feeling of being content about how things were going around. During the lockdown, when I wanted to get back on track with dance, and when I didn't know how to, Ektha actually revived the fire and made me feel comfortable as well. I joined Ektha's 2 Year Anniversary Virtual Collaboration video, and will now be performing at our first standalone show in January.
